Exodus 13:1-16

Consecration of the Firstborn

1Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 2“Sanctify to Me every firstborn, the first offspring of every womb among the sons of Israel, both of man and beast; it belongs to Me.”

3Moses said to the people, “Remember this day in which you went out from Egypt, from the house of slavery; for by a powerful hand the Lord brought you out from this place. And nothing leavened shall be eaten. 4On this day in the month of Abib, you are about to go forth. 5It shall be when the Lord brings you to the land of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, the Hivite and the Jebusite, which He swore to your fathers to give you, a land flowing with milk and honey, that you shall observe this rite in this month. 6For seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, and on the seventh day there shall be a feast to the Lord. 7Unleavened bread shall be eaten throughout the seven days; and nothing leavened shall be seen among you, nor shall any leaven be seen among you in all your borders. 8You shall tell your son on that day, saying, ‘It is because of what the Lord did for me when I came out of Egypt.’ 9And it shall serve as a sign to you on your hand, and as a reminder on your forehead, that the law of the Lord may be in your mouth; for with a powerful hand the Lord brought you out of Egypt. 10Therefore, you shall keep this ordinance at its appointed time from year to year.

11“Now when the Lord brings you to the land of the Canaanite, as He swore to you and to your fathers, and gives it to you, 12you shall devote to the Lord the first offspring of every womb, and the first offspring of every beast that you own; the males belong to the Lord. 13But every first offspring of a donkey you shall redeem with a lamb, but if you do not redeem it, then you shall break its neck; and every firstborn of man among your sons you shall redeem. 14And it shall be when your son asks you in time to come, saying, ‘What is this?’ then you shall say to him, ‘With a powerful hand the Lord brought us out of Egypt, from the house of slavery. 15It came about, when Pharaoh was stubborn about letting us go, that the Lord killed every firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the firstborn of man and the firstborn of beast. Therefore, I sacrifice to the Lord the males, the first offspring of every womb, but every firstborn of my sons I redeem.’ 16So it shall serve as a sign on your hand and as phylacteries on your forehead, for with a powerful hand the Lord brought us out of Egypt.”

Psalms 136:10-16

10To Him who smote the Egyptians in their firstborn,

For His lovingkindness is everlasting,

11And brought Israel out from their midst,

For His lovingkindness is everlasting,

12With a strong hand and an outstretched arm,

For His lovingkindness is everlasting.

13To Him who divided the Red Sea asunder,

For His lovingkindness is everlasting,

14And made Israel pass through the midst of it,

For His lovingkindness is everlasting;

15But He overthrew Pharaoh and his army in the Red Sea,

For His lovingkindness is everlasting.

16To Him who led His people through the wilderness,

For His lovingkindness is everlasting;

Revelation 5:9-14

9And they *sang a new song, saying,

“Worthy are You to take the book and to break its seals; for You were slain, and purchased for God with Your blood men from every tribe and tongue and people and nation.

10You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to our God; and they will reign upon the earth.”

Angels Exalt the Lamb

11Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne and the living creatures and the elders; and the number of them was myriads of myriads, and thousands of thousands, 12saying with a loud voice,

“Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing.”

13And every created thing which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all things in them, I heard saying,

“To Him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb, be blessing and honor and glory and dominion forever and ever.”

14And the four living creatures kept saying, “Amen.” And the elders fell down and worshiped.

2) How does Revelation connect Passover imagery to Messiah’s redemption?

3) What ongoing response of worship does the Exodus call forth today?

Job 28:1-28

Job Tells of Earth’s Treasures

1“Surely there is a mine for silver

And a place where they refine gold.

2Iron is taken from the dust,

And copper is smelted from rock.

3Man puts an end to darkness,

And to the farthest limit he searches out

The rock in gloom and deep shadow.

4He sinks a shaft far from habitation,

Forgotten by the foot;

They hang and swing to and fro far from men.

5The earth, from it comes food,

And underneath it is turned up as fire.

6Its rocks are the source of sapphires,

And its dust contains gold.

7The path no bird of prey knows,

Nor has the falcon’s eye caught sight of it.

8The proud beasts have not trodden it,

Nor has the fierce lion passed over it.

9He puts his hand on the flint;

He overturns the mountains at the base.

10He hews out channels through the rocks,

And his eye sees anything precious.

11He dams up the streams from flowing,

And what is hidden he brings out to the light.

The Search for Wisdom Is Harder

12“But where can wisdom be found?

And where is the place of understanding?

13Man does not know its value,

Nor is it found in the land of the living.

14The deep says, ‘It is not in me’;

And the sea says, ‘It is not with me.’

15Pure gold cannot be given in exchange for it,

Nor can silver be weighed as its price.

16It cannot be valued in the gold of Ophir,

In precious onyx, or sapphire.

17Gold or glass cannot equal it,

Nor can it be exchanged for articles of fine gold.

18Coral and crystal are not to be mentioned;

And the acquisition of wisdom is above that of pearls.

19The topaz of Ethiopia cannot equal it,

Nor can it be valued in pure gold.

20Where then does wisdom come from?

And where is the place of understanding?

21Thus it is hidden from the eyes of all living

And concealed from the birds of the sky.

22Abaddon and Death say,

‘With our ears we have heard a report of it.’

23“God understands its way,

And He knows its place.

24For He looks to the ends of the earth

And sees everything under the heavens.

25When He imparted weight to the wind

And meted out the waters by measure,

26When He set a limit for the rain

And a course for the thunderbolt,

27Then He saw it and declared it;

He established it and also searched it out.

28And to man He said, ‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom;

And to depart from evil is understanding.’ ”

Psalms 136:1-9

PSALM 136

Thanks for the Lords Goodness to Israel.

1Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good,

For His lovingkindness is everlasting.

2Give thanks to the God of gods,

For His lovingkindness is everlasting.

3Give thanks to the Lord of lords,

For His lovingkindness is everlasting.

4To Him who alone does great wonders,

For His lovingkindness is everlasting;

5To Him who made the heavens with skill,

For His lovingkindness is everlasting;

6To Him who spread out the earth above the waters,

For His lovingkindness is everlasting;

7To Him who made the great lights,

For His lovingkindness is everlasting:

8The sun to rule by day,

For His lovingkindness is everlasting,

9The moon and stars to rule by night,

For His lovingkindness is everlasting.

Mark 14:45-72

45After coming, Judas immediately went to Him, saying, “Rabbi!” and kissed Him. 46They laid hands on Him and seized Him. 47But one of those who stood by drew his sword, and struck the slave of the high priest and cut off his ear. 48And Jesus said to them, “Have you come out with swords and clubs to arrest Me, as you would against a robber? 49Every day I was with you in the temple teaching, and you did not seize Me; but this has taken place to fulfill the Scriptures.” 50And they all left Him and fled.

51A young man was following Him, wearing nothing but a linen sheet over his naked body; and they *seized him. 52But he pulled free of the linen sheet and escaped naked.

Jesus before His Accusers

53They led Jesus away to the high priest; and all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes *gathered together. 54Peter had followed Him at a distance, right into the courtyard of the high priest; and he was sitting with the officers and warming himself at the fire. 55Now the chief priests and the whole Council kept trying to obtain testimony against Jesus to put Him to death, and they were not finding any. 56For many were giving false testimony against Him, but their testimony was not consistent. 57Some stood up and began to give false testimony against Him, saying, 58“We heard Him say, ‘I will destroy this temple made with hands, and in three days I will build another made without hands.’ ” 59Not even in this respect was their testimony consistent. 60The high priest stood up and came forward and questioned Jesus, saying, “Do You not answer? What is it that these men are testifying against You?” 61But He kept silent and did not answer. Again the high priest was questioning Him, and saying to Him, “Are You the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?62And Jesus said, “I am; and you shall see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.” 63Tearing his clothes, the high priest *said, “What further need do we have of witnesses? 64You have heard the blasphemy; how does it seem to you?” And they all condemned Him to be deserving of death. 65Some began to spit at Him, and to blindfold Him, and to beat Him with their fists, and to say to Him, “Prophesy!” And the officers received Him with slaps in the face.

Peter’s Denials

66As Peter was below in the courtyard, one of the servant-girls of the high priest *came, 67and seeing Peter warming himself, she looked at him and *said, “You also were with Jesus the Nazarene.” 68But he denied it, saying, “I neither know nor understand what you are talking about.” And he went out onto the porch. 69The servant-girl saw him, and began once more to say to the bystanders, “This is one of them!” 70But again he denied it. And after a little while the bystanders were again saying to Peter, “Surely you are one of them, for you are a Galilean too.” 71But he began to curse and swear, “I do not know this man you are talking about!” 72Immediately a rooster crowed a second time. And Peter remembered how Jesus had made the remark to him, “Before a rooster crows twice, you will deny Me three times.” And he began to weep.
